Welcome to Highway Church!

There’s more about the individual parts of the Church on the relevant pages, but here’s a short history, and a little bit about us:

Highway Church, founded by Dave and Jill Ward, has been active in Penryn since 1989, and we gained charitable status in 1994. We have had an amazing adventure in the last 25 years, running a coffee bar in the town hall, followed by owning our own coffee shop, as well as running youth and toddler groups. In 2012 we purchased the building that we have named Highway Community Centre in the heart of the town, which has been another amazing testimony to God’s provision. We have also acquiring the building adjacent to our community centre, which we have named Highway House. This serves as a home for the Penryn & Falmouth Foodbank, and the social support that happens there.

The Church’s scriptural foundations are chapters 35 and 40 of Isaiah. Alongside our life as a family together, we have a strong emphasis on providing support for our community. We own and operate a community centre in the heart of the town, and our premises are used by a wide range of community groups including a dance group for disabled service users, sexual abuse counselling and a daycare centre. Highway is often used by Cornwall Council as a polling station for national and local elections, as well as for family group conferences, and remains a popular venue for birthday parties and private hire.

Highway Church operates Acorns Parent & Toddler Group, the Penryn & Falmouth Foodbank and ColourRiot which all carry out their amazing weekly work from our premises; it is a real privilege to be able to provide these activities and services for our community.

Teams and members of the Church have been to Canada, Ukraine, Philippines, and former members are still in touch from Hong Kong and Afghanistan, to name but a few. We also had the amazing opportunity to pray on the site of the Penryn Campus before it was built.

It’s been such an amazing journey; will you join us? We’re certainly looking forward to the next part of it.
